Communicative Skills

Beginning this semester, I did not have many skills, so I started the course like a beginner. However, I feel that my skills improved because we got many practice and tasks.

The first task was about semi-formal presentation. Because it was the first presentation for a lot of students, our teacher, Mr. Gregory prepared for us some videos about how we can do a good presentation, and that helped us. The first presentation was a good start, I trained before it and I recorded my practice by the video. After that, I saw it with my teacher and he gave me some important tips. However, when I did my presentation I did some mistakes. For example, my voice was not loud enough; also I had some confusion. However, after that we had the formal presentation. There were some challenges about that, but the biggest one is that how I can fix my mistakes in the last presentation and do better in the formal presentation. So I review my video of the first presentation and my teacher tips. Then I practiced to solve my mistakes to be ready for the presentation and I focus on the voice and how I can present front of the classroom, so I did better than the semi-formal.

Overall, my skills improved after these tasks such as in the next presentation I can talk by voice everybody in the classroom can hear it. Also I have good eye contact with the whole classroom and I can move my hands with what I need to say during the presentation. However, in the future I will do a lot of practice that will help me to present front of the people without stress.

Formal Presentation

Last Sunday, 29/5/2011 our group, T.C, did our presentation, which was about Marine Life. That started at 14:30 in T005-A. It was about six parts and distributed by all members: Ahmed Sayed, Abdulaziz, Faris, Abdullah and me, Moaath.

I would like here to describe Ahmed’s (H00161084) attitude during his part of the presentation. Ahmed had the introduction and conclusion of our presentation. His parts are the most important of the presentation, because in the introduction the speaker needs to attract attention by his elocution. Ahmed was excellent in the introduction because he used simple words. So that, the audience who are weak in English, could understand what we will talk about. Also in the conclusion, Ahmed gave them a good summary about our subject, where he could summarize all what we said in few words. Additionally, he attracted the whole classroom by his elocution, where he was looking to everybody and he used his hands with what he needed to say. However, Ahmed needed the PowerPoint only to describe what we will present. Also, he did his part in the time allotted. Likewise, Ahmed had a loud voice that the whole classroom could hear very clearly.

Overall, I think Ahmed improved his skills from the last presentation. But he still was a little bit stressed. So that, he needs to present monthly in front of the people, and he will be perfect.

Summary presentation..

Before two weeks on Sunday, 24-4-2011 our group, T.C, did our presentation, which compared Internet Explorer 8 and Safari. That was at 13:30 in T008. Our presentation was in about six parts and it was distributed by all members, where each member had something to do. Ahmed had the introduction and conclusion, Abdulaziz had the advantages of Internet Explorer 8, Faris had the disadvantages of Internet Explorer 8, Abdullah had advantages of Safari and I talked about disadvantages of Safari.

Today, I will talk about my colleague Faris, H00155369. As I said, Faris’s part in the presentation was to talk about some disadvantages of Internet Explorer 8. First of all, he recorded his part in video and he had some weaknesses such as: he was too nervous and his voice was not loud enough. After that, our teacher saw the video and he gave Faris some tips about that. Then, when Faris did the final presentation he corrected his weaknesses. For example, he had a louder voice, he had good eye contact with the whole classroom and he moved his hands with what he needed to say during the presentation. However, Faris still was a little nervous because his presentation was the first for him and the subject was a little difficult because he had not experienced that.

Overall, I thought the presentation was very good and he could talk about 2 minutes. However, I think that Faris needs to do some practice to stand in front of the audience.
